Uros and Taquile – Cultural Connection in Lake Titicaca
7:00 a.m. – Tour starts with pickup from your hotel in Puno
We will pick you up from your accommodation located in downtown Puno to take you to the port, where you will board a tourist boat bound for the Floating Islands of the Uros, located about 30 minutes away. These islands are entirely made of totora, an aquatic plant used as the foundation for the construction and daily life of the Uros, one of the oldest cultures on the continent.
Visit to the Floating Islands of the Uros
During this stop, you will learn about life on these unique islands. A professional guide will explain their history, construction methods, and way of life. Then, you will have free time to explore, take photos, and chat with the locals. You can also opt for a short ride in a traditional totora raft (optional).
Continue to Taquile Island
After the visit, we will head to Taquile, located about two hours away by boat. Once on the island, we will begin a walk of approximately 90 minutes. The first part is a moderate 30-minute climb, followed by a flat and then downhill route that lasts about an hour. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular views of the lake and get to know the cultural richness of the Taquile community.
During your visit, you will go to a local family’s home, where you will share a traditional lunch made with fresh ingredients from the area. Through a community rotation system, each family has the opportunity to receive visitors, promoting sustainable tourism that respects their traditions.
4:00 p.m. – Return to the city of Puno
After lunch and cultural exchange, you will board the boat again to return to the Puno port. A brief stop may be made at another island if any passenger needs to disembark there. The tour ends around 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., with transportation back to hotels located near the city center of Puno. If your accommodation is outside of this area, an additional charge will apply.
